Gardeners urged to remain vigilant

SOUTH WALES Police are urging residents to be vigilant of garden crime and take a number of steps to prevent being targeted this summer.
Many thieves use the summer months as an opportunity to steal property from both houses and gardens as people leave equipment outside their house or leave their windows open.
Police are advising residents to follow precautions such as using gravel for paths to create noise as a deterrent for thieves and positioning security lighting at vulnerable exits, or somewhere that will cast shadows.
Other tips include packing away tools that may help thieves break into the home.
Sheds and garages should also be checked to make sure they are secure as they are often a popular target for thieves.
If anybody sees or hears anything suspicious they should dial 999 and if anyone has any information about any crimes they should contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or South Wales Police on 101.
